Chokoji Temple is believed to have been founded by Hodo-Sennin. The hondo (main hall) is a National Treasure.
With dimensions of 12.6 m x 12.6 m, it is a bold square building that combines elements of Japanese and Chinese styles in even the smallest details and is believed to have been built in the early Muromachi Period.
From the quiet and peaceful temple grounds that are surrounded with greenery, you can hear the sounds of nearby Tsukubane Falls. On May 5 every year, the dynamic Onioi (demon-ousting dance) is performed as an offering.
