The 25th temple on the Kansai pilgrimage trail, Kiyomizu-dera Temple is located on the summit of Mt. Mitake, 552 m above sea level, in the grounds of the Kiyomizu-Tojoko-Tachikui Prefectural Nature Park.
The temple grounds offer commanding views of the Seto Inland Sea.
Some 600 cherry trees line the road to the summit. Because of the different varieties, such as Somei-Yoshino and botan-zakura, growing here, cherry blossoms are in bloom for about a month, making this a popular spot for flower viewing.
