Climb the stairs with their many layers of torii gates, proceed along the sloping path for a short time, and you will see Inari Shrine directly ahead.
This is where Kuroda Castle is believed to have stood.
It is thought that this castle was built by Kuroda Shigekatsu, a powerful local clan chief in the Muromachi Period.
It is also said to be the birthplace of Kuroda Kanbei, who played an important role in gaining control of Harima as Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s military strategist.
Even today, you can see the remains of the dry moats and earthen mounds that were built to keep out invaders.
