The Ieshima Islands have been “savored” since ancient times. They are mentioned in the Manyoshu (oldest existing collection of Japanese poetry).
The islands are also well known for their association with Sugawara no Michizane, a notable scholar, poet, and politician of the Heian Period.
There are 10 particularly attractive scenic spots, including Maura Kokaku, Tenma Reiju, Kankan Chobo, Miyaura Yahaku, Shirahige Reishi, Akasaka Shimizu, and Sakuradani Sekkei.
And, there are also ryokan (Japanese inns) that serve delicious seafood.
